Carroll County Amateur Radio Club
Meeting Minutes, 10 September 2007

President Rich Mitchell, N3III, called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM. Twenty
members and no guests were present. 

Announcements:

The next CCARC meeting will be on Monday October 8th at the FTC.

The next BoD meeting will be on Wednesday September 19th, 7:30 PM at the FTC.

The Maryland Wine Festival Asthma Ride is coming up on Saturday September 15th.

The Simulated Emergency Test is coming up on Saturday October 7th.

Jim K4CGY has some hardline he’d like to give away. He also mentioned that Cindy
Hall is trying to get her husband’s station cleaned out. Jim will be moving to
the Charlottesville area in the next month or so.

>From the mailbag:

The club’s mail was briefly reviewed and dispositioned. The county is looking
for events to add to their tourist calendar.

Secretary’s Report:

Steve N3SB published the secretary’s report to the club’s email reflector. The
report was accepted by the membership present. 

Treasurer’s Report:

Tony KF3AK provided the treasurer’s report, detailing current balances, income,
and expenses. The report was accepted by the membership present. 

Board of Directors Report:

The report was published to the reflector. No club members desired to have the
report read.

Committee Reports:

Repeater: Tom Harig N3PSB has donated a Motorola MSF5000 UHF repeater to the
club, all tuned up and ready to go on 449.875. It can serve as a spare to our
existing equipment.

DCS: Chuck N3TOT reported -- The next meeting (September 24th) will be devoted
to finishing the assembly of the four shelter kits that the county has
procured. 

Hamfest / Tailgate Fest: Bill W3STG reported – The Tailgate-Fest was very
successful – more successful than in the past two years. The new layout at the
Ag Center seems to be working out well. It’s easier to control traffic now.
Plans for the October hamfest was discussed.

Station Committee: Gene KB3JHR reported that there is an excess of old computers
and monitors, that may be taken to the hamfest or offered up to anyone who wants
them.

Holiday Committee: Bill N3WM reported that the Holiday part will be held at the
VFW this year, on Sunday December 2nd. The menu and member costs will be worked
out soon.

Technology Experimenters Committee: Rich N3III reported that the TEC committee
met last Friday night to make plans for future balloon flights. A letter is
being written to the FAA to advise them of our planned balloon launches, and
get their consent. Rich has been developing a website full of information to
help experimenters get their PICAxe board built and interfaced to an
experimenter’s board. He also has information on how to build and test a
SoftRock Lite Receiver. His website is www.att.net/~geobra . Rich showed the
club his PICAxe Half-Board, plugged into a prototype board, along with a serial
LCD interface to an LCD. Rich gave away prototype boards to ALL the members
present at the meeting.

Presentation: 

Wayne Wilson N3UN and Tony Krauth KF3AK gave a presentation on Army MARS, the
Military Affiliate Radio System.

Club KX-1 Kit Status:

The KX-1 transceiver kit is operational on 40 and 20 meters, producing about 3.5
Watts on both bands. The radio is aligned but its BFO and DDS oscillators still
need to be calibrated. The antenna tuner kit is installed and aligned. The
80/30 band kit can now be built and installed.
