Subject: [CNL] Requesting Immediate Action for SB 68

The Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee heard our testimony on Senate
Bill 68 on Wednesday. If passed, the bill will not allow any new
Homeowner's Associations that are formed to ban amateur antennas.

Please feel free to put this message on your local club or ARES
reflector.

It would be helpful for all amateurs who are represented by the senators
listed below to call or send a brief e-mail thanking the senators for
allowing us to testify. In the same e-mail we should request support for
SB 68. It's possible they will have voted already, so the message may
have to be adjusted, as described below the list of names.

Brian E. Frosh, Chair

Lisa A. Gladden, Vice-Chair

James Brochin

Jennie M. Forehand

Larry E. Haines

Nancy Jacobs

Alex X. Mooney (Thank him for co-sponsoring the bill.) C. Anthony Muse
Jamie Raskin Bryan W. Simonaire Norman R. Stone, Jr.

All you have to do is to go to <www.mdelect.net> and enter your street
address. The names of your senator and delegate(s) will appear on the
screen. If your senator is one of the ones above, click on the name of
the senator to get the senator's official web page, including the e-mail
address.

NOTE: If you are represented by Sen. Klausmeier (not in the above
listing), please send her an e-mail thanking her for introducing SB 68.

She has been a staunch ally. If Senator Mooney is your senator, please
don't forget to thank him for co-sponsoring the bill.

What you say to your Senator depends on whether the committee has voted
by the time you get this message. To find out, go to
<http://mlis.state.md.us/2007RS/billfile/sb0068.htm>

If they haven't voted yet, do this:

Say: "Thanks for allowing amateurs to testify Wednesday. I would
appreciate your support for SB 68."

If they voted favorably, change the second sentence above to say "I
appreciate your support for SB 68."

If you want to say more, add these words: "The bill will enable
newly-formed homeowners associations to include amateur radio operators
in regular contact with local emergency management officials. This will
be valuable in an emergency when the telephones stop working."

If they voted unfavorably, just say: "Thanks for allowing amateurs to
testify Wednesday and for considering SB 68."

In all cases, please sign your name and address, so they can see you're a
constituent.

Finally, please copy our ARRL SGL Dave (W8AJR) Prestel <w8ajr at arrl.net>
so that we can tally how many emails are generated by our efforts.

Thank you in advance for taking the time and expending the effort to
become involved in legislation that will benefit the future of amateur
radio in the Maryland-D,C. Section. The companion House Bill will be
introduced shortly. More info as it becomes available.
