CCARCers,
Kids Day is just over a week away. The event itself runs from 1800 - 2400 UTC,
or in local time that should be 1 pm to 7 pm. See QST December 2007, p. 39 for
more details.
Tom (KB3PNU), a new member, has a Tech group of 4 or 5 kids in the 12 - 15 age
group. We are planning to host them at the club station. Tom will be bringing
them by around 2 pm. We will probably be concentating on having 20m and 40m
phone stations for the kids to operate. We can perhaps show them some other
modes, but with the RTTY contest going on there probably won't be much operating
opportunity. SDR might look great, though.
Several of us from the board and Joe KB3LNM will be there to aid, assist and
control the operations. If you would like to join us, please feel free. In
addition to being control ops we can help in the following:
Cue cards - to help the kids with mic fright
Log books - Perhaps we can print off log pages and make books that the kids can
use and keep
QSL cards - Maybe we can take some pictures and create QSL cards on the fly.
Map - so they can see where the contact is
Food - I'll talk to Tom about this.
Other mode demos - digital, SDR, CW on 30m (keep them interested during breaks)
RF monitor with scope so kids can see their voice as they speak.
Other things ??????????
Since their Tech club is doing some soldering I plan to give them each a Pixie 2
kit that they can take with them and build at their Tech club meetings.
Seems like a good way for our club to start the new year.
