[K3PZN-List] Learn about QRP

Keith,

thanks for posting! Anthony is a great writer (and he
regularly beats me in QRP contesting). Yes QRP spans
low end simplist radios to high performance radios
like the K2. QRP can be as simple as turning your
main rig down by 13 dB to 5 watts .... which is legal
definition for contesting ... but in my opinion the
"spirit of QRP" is the same resourcefulness of earlier
amateurs who made their rigs from TV set parts (and
before that with a model T spark gap). (ok the same
spirit can go into making your own kW amp but this
thought not appreciated by some of my QRP friends!)
its a higher level of intimacy with electronics than
"operating an appliance." (not that I want to come
across as critical - this is a great hobby and all
interests need to thrive to take us thru the current
century!) meanwhile glad we can enjoy FD with less
heavy metal and less electricity to make the RF do its
magic. i don't get hung up with the dBs as much as
the experience.

73, curt
