Hello all,
Sorry that I missed the on the air meeting tonight but I am ready for the
event. I was able to go over to the site on Monday afternoon and I would
like to stake a claim on the north-west corrner of the old tennis court for
my HF Digital Station Tent. I believe that I have enough battery power to
last me through the Field Day Operation. I plan on supplementing my power
needs with an extention cord from a 120 VAC GFI outlet about 200 feet away
that is located next to the Ball Field Backstop. If I keep the load down,
the voltage should be OK. The 400 AH of batteries are in prime condition
and I keep them topped up all of the time.
Do we have a special logging requirement? I was planning on using the
logging software built into the MixW2 software to provide me with Call,
Serial Number, Band, Mode, Time/Date and maybe Section if needed.
There is a Portajohn located about 100 feet from the north end of the tennis
court that is clean and serviced regularly by Fogle's. I understand that it
is available for anyone that uses the area.
For anyone that would like to put up any pipe masts, there are many 2 inch
ID sockets (sawed off fence posts) that line the outside of the old tennis
court located about every 10 feet along 2 sides of the court. The old
tennis court is about 90 feet by 150 feet. Unfortunately, the flood lights,
located along the west side of the court are not operational due to a lack
of power feed, probably from one of the old buildings up on the hill. No
matter, the concrete posts could hold up any number of antennas as well as
the trees.
I plan on getting to the site on Friday morning sometime to start setting
up.
I can tow the generator trailer with my truck if needed and the lic. plate
is good on the trailer?
A small generator would be easier to work with and quieter than the trailer
mounted unit if one was available. I would think that it would only be
needed for about 12 hours (through the night) or to make COFFEE and keep it
coming all night.
I understand, from talking with the local security officer that if any of
the hospital patients get too in the way, they will help us out, but they
don't expect any problems.
It is possible, that if the weather is good, some of the patients might use
the ball field for a game, but that should not be any impact on us and might
give us some extra spectators to learn more about Ham Radio and what we are
doing.
I am still looking for more help to run the HF Digital Station, so if you
need something to do, keep me in mind and look for the 10 X 14 foot tent on
the North-West corrner of the tennis court.
