Carroll County Amateur Radio Club
Meeting Minutes, 8-May 2006

President John Hart, K3KWO, called the meeting to order at 7:33 PM. Fourteen
members and no guests were present.

Our speaker is Bill Neeriemer, W3STG. Bill presented material to prepare the
members for taking the IS-700 exam. After the presentation, Bill answered
questions from the members while they reviewed the exam material.

Announcements:

The next Board of Directors meeting will be held on Wednesday 17 May, 7:30 PM at
the Fire Training Center. All members are welcome to attend.

Members are encouraged to pick up some hamfest flyers and distribute them at
upcoming hamfests.

June’s presentation topic will be ICS-100 training. After the training session
it should be easy for anyone attending to pass the ICS100 exam. IS200 training
will be held at the July meeting.

Secretary’s Report:

The minutes as published to the CCARC reflector were approved by the membership
present.

Treasurer’s Report:

Bill W3STG read the treasurer’s report. The report was approved by the
membership present.

Board Meeting Notes:

John K3KWO briefed the club on the topics covered at the last BoD meeting. John
also reminded everyone that they are welcome to attend.

Committee Reports:

Field Day – John W3JJH discussed Field Day plans for this year. He indicated the
possibility of running Field Day as a NIMS compliant exercise, and will develop
a compliant staffing structure. John also indicated that Station Captains are a
critical need. 
John then touched on the possibility of running a QRP Field Day, which would
involve radios in the 5-Watt class, and battery or other natural power sources,
and the group was convinced that this is the way to go.

The location being considered is the Springfield Hospital Center. Options for
other sites are still welcome. If anyone has an alternative, they should obtain
preliminary approval from the site owner first, and contact john at

A volunteer to oversee the picnic is still required. 

Old Business:

New Business:

Motion to allocate $150 as a supplement to the Field Day budget by John W3JJH,
and seconded by William W3STG. The motion was approved by the membership
present. 

Chairmen were requested for the following committees:

Tailgate-Fest – no chairman

Holiday Party Committee – no chairman 

Repeater Committee – no chairman

Technical Committee – no chairman

Closing notes:

Mike N3VOP mentioned that this past Saturday, Clint W3ARS, John W3ADC, and Bob
W3RAR went to Kentucky to set up a “Triple Crown” Special Event station (K4D).
They set up in a US Park campground, and made over 700 contacts. They will
operate a station for the Preakness (K3P). Another club is planning to operate
a station in New York for the Belmont (K2B).

Mike also reminded the club about the MD FM association Hamfest on Memorial Day,
and the Manassas Hamfest coming up in June. 

President Hart adjourned the meeting at 10:06 PM.
