CARET:

It is renewal time for Carroll County ARES/RACES.  If you have not already done so, please go to the CARET website (www.qsl.net/caret) to renew your membership.

Be aware that with all the new documentation that is now being required of ARES/RACES volunteers by FEMA, anyone not registered may become limited to what one can do in an emergency event.

Please consider that when you register, you are stating that you want to participate in CARET events and training.  Please do not register "just" to be on the list.   There is nothing worse than to have a need for operators and the list is full of ghost operators.

Also, the CARET roster is used as the "official" RACES roster.  Should RACES be activated, only those on the CARET roster will be permitted to participate.

The CARET roster will be purged of all names as of March 30, 2006.

On a training note, you may have heard by now that FEMA is requiring all government associated emergency agency personnel to have cerified training (includes RACES).  For communications, the NIMS IS-700 and IS-100 is recommended.  These courses may be taken on-line. However, the Carroll County Amateur Radio Club is providing this training at their next several meetings (starting Monday, 8 May).  I recommend all take advantage of this opportunity.
