[K3PZN-List] ARRL Board of Directors Outlines Ambitious Legislative Agenda

The highlights of the annual ARRL Board of Directors meeting are available
on the ARRL website: www.arrl.org. I really don't see anything new and
innovative being implemented. Just the need to fight the same old battles
over CC&R's, Amateur Spectrum and a (slightly) modified "Sub-Bands by
Bandwith" proposal that would allow for 3kHz wide modes on 30m, EXCEPT
telephony. Oh, yeah, and trying to convince Congress that the Amateur Radio
bands are a "technolgical national park". Bad idea. Now, the BPL and other
commercial folks will want to have "free grazing rights" just like the
cattlemen do in the real National Park system. I guess that we'll have to
stop eating beef and using electricity in protest.

In case you don't have a clue about the proposed Sub-Bands by Bandwith, what
it all boils down to is that while it looks like it will have little or no
impact on how we now operate on the HF bands, it serves to allow for WINLINK
2000 systems that are constantly on the air to operate anywhere in the
already overcrowded HF phone bands in order to appease a special interest
group of ARRL self proclaimed gurus that want what amouts to an HF e-mail
system. Gee, just what we've always needed. More G#$%*&!d e-mail. Throw
in the "box top coupon" upgrade for Tech's and watch how interesting it
gets. You'll need a linear amp to work QRP!
