Hey, Clint,

If you're going to call a race, you better known who the horses are and the
nature of the breed. Some old horses just like to lay back and graze and
enjoy the company of the herd and try not to shit on the other horses' turf.
They only pull the milk wagon once in a while for a short distance because
that's all that they have left in them. Then, they just like to stand
around and be thankful that they ain't a fire horse or a race horse because
if you run fast, they'll expect you to run faster in the next race or if
they get to close to the fire, they'll get your tail singhed. Them old
horses don't even see carrots dangled in front of their noses and could care
less who gets the little lump of sugar or another horse getting an apple and
they don't because they just like being one of the herd. Neither do said
old horses want to be the alpha stallion. And when it comes that time of
the year when the herd gathers around the trough for their big annual
Christmas feed, you can easily spot these old horses because they don't even
bother to cross the pasture simply because they don't care for the brand of
oats being served. Old horses can only hope that when it comes their turn
to be sent off to the glue factory, that they made things just a little bit
better for the rest of the herd and didn't leave any road apples for the
other horses to step in.
