> 1. First of all, what's your call sign and first name?
> *** Al Bisasky K3ZE
> 2. How old are you? Approximate if you wish.
*** 56 yrs.
> 3. What is your QTH?
*** Sykesville, MD
> 4. How long have you been a ham operator?
*** 24 yeras as of the 20th of this month.
> 5. What got you interested in amateur radio?
*** I have been interested in radio and electronics since age 10.
> 6. What bands do you normally use? Do you ever use
> CW?
*** 80, 40, 20, 17, 15, 10 (the last two when propagation allows), 6m, 2m,
70cm
I lilke the personal contact of SSB. Although I had to pass a 13wpm
test for my original General Class license in 1980 and later brought my
speed up to 20+, I haven't used CW in years.
> 7. How about any digital modes, such as RTTY, PSK31,
*** PSK31 and a little RTTY
> or SSTV?
*** No
> 8. Are you involved with RACES or ARES?
*** No, but I am taking an emergency communications course thry the ARRL.
> 9. Do you ever make homebrew equipment?
*** I have in the past and also built several Heathkits in my teens and
twenties.
> 10. Do you have any equipment that uses vacuum tubes?
*** I just sold a Kenwood TS-830S not long ago. It was a "hybrid" rig:
solid state with a tube exciter/driver and two 6146B tubes in the final
power stage. I had the rig for 22 years and I miss it even though I have an
Icom IC-746Pro.
> 11. What is the best part about your hobby?
*** Meeting new people and making new friends through the club and on the
air. I still get a thrill out of working a new country or busting a crowded
pile up.
> 12. What is the worst part about your hobby?
*** Poor operators who cannot even use a microphone properly, repeater
"hogs", and snotty hams.
> 13. Any other hobbies?
*** I like to cook, play and take walks with Andrew, our Golden Retriever,
reading, staying up late, watching old movies (that are on when I stay up
late).
> 14. Add up the length of all your antennas. How many
> feet is it?
**** About 30 ft or so. I have two verticals, one for HF and the other for
VHF/UHF. I lost my Windom to a storm this past summer. I have not put it
back up because I plan to install a 50 ft tower with a Tri-band Yagi for HF,
inverted Vees or a Windom for 160m, 80m & 40m, and a small Yagi for 6m. It
probably will not be done until next spring or summer.
> 15. Is there anything else you would like to share
> about your experiences? Any interesting stories,
> extra information... anything?
>> *** I'm always looking for the learning experiences in Ham radio. I
like to contest - usually as part of a team of operators at a multi-multi
station. I'm an avid IOTA island hunter. My Elmer was Karl Booker W3OEJ
(SK).
I sincerely hope that this helps you with your project. Best of luck with
it.
