Nice read - we were simplex for about 3 hours during Francis, the
microwave dishes and waveguide blew apart on the Harris tower and for a
while were swinging around up there hitting our DB228 bashing 5 of the 8
dipoles apart, you could actually hear the impacts in the repeater audio
as they caused desence. Our backup repeater antenna then blew off the
hospital (found it hanging by the hardline over the side the next day).
We went to simplex for about 2 hours, once I got another operator to
work NCS I went up and set up an antenna in the stairwell on the 8th
floor and we had the repeater back, 3 or so hours afer that the stuff
finished blowing off the tower and we got our main repeater back with a
very messed up pattern. The main machine stayed solid for jeanne since
all the debris was already blown off, on the down side we never found
the antenna for the UHF machine, just 6" of it still on the hotel roof.
