I just want to take a minute to remind everyone that there will be a special
HAM - 101 class for kids under 18, coming up soon. Class is scheduled to
begin on Sunday June 6, 2004 from 6:00 PM to approximately 8:30 PM. The
class is scheduled to last until early August with an official FCC VE Exam
session following.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!! No classes will be held the weekend of June 26th and
27th because of Field Day Activities. Although it is not a class
requirement, all Youth Class particpants and their parents are strongly
encouraged to participate in the Field Day weekend exercizes. This is a
tremendous learning opportunity for young and old alike.
Field Day is an excercize designed to demonstrate the abilities and
capabilities of ham radio operators as they deploy to a remote area,
(Freedom Park- just off of Route 32 in Sykesville, MD) set up and operate
multiple transmitters continuously for 24 hours as would occurr in an actual
emergency response call-up. Set-up will begin on Friday afternoon and the
radio contact portion of the drill will begin at 2:00 PM sharp on Saturday
and will run continuously until 2:00 PM on Sunday. YES, EVEN THOUGH YOU AR
NOT LICENSED YET, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO OPERATE THE RADIOS UNDER THE WATCHFULL
EYES OF AN EXPERIENCED RADIO STATION CONTROL OPERATOR. Our station captains
will be expecting you. He or she will be happy to show you what you need to
know as well as demonstrate proper radio techniques. Food will be provided
by the radio club. More on this event will be discussed in class as the
event draws closer.
This year, the class will be designed to properly prepare its participants
so that they will be able to get the most out of their Field Day experience
from both educational and fun perspectives.
Additionally, no classes will be held on Sunday July 4, 2004 in observance
of the Independance Day holiday.
If you would like to sign up for this class (or know of someone interested),
please send an e-mail message to either Clint - [email protected] or me,
[email protected] BEFORE May 15, 2004 so we can order the proper
number of text books. Please include 'HAM 101' in the subject line of the
e-mail.
THE CLASS IS FREE. The cost of the text book is less than $25.00 payable by
cash or check on the first day of class. The CCARC makes no money on the
text books. Our cost is what you pay.
73's AND MAY THE "COURSE" BE WITH YOU,
Keith Krichinsky - KB3HHK
