[K3PZN-List] ANOTHER FIELD DAY

Another successful CCARC Field Day has come and gone. "Successful"
because of the hard work performed by the Station Captains and the
"Chef" and all of those who operated and performed all of the grunt
work. Like any other club event, what you as a member put into it, you
get out of it. We ran as a 10 Alpha.
My apologies for not being more active and doing some operating. I
broke a filling and the tooth was giving me a fit and I couldn't eat
Keith's teriyaki barbecued chicken or the corn on the cob, both of which
are among my favorites. Many thanks to Doogie, Hubcap, and Bubba for
taking up the slack in my absence and to Nitz for not going near the
generator the ran like a Swiss watch for most of the weekend. Thanks,
Dick, for hauling that mother over from the FTC for us and "The Gashouse
Gang" (aka Doug and his crew) for keeping the thing fueled.
Poor Steve had well pump problems on Saturday and was unable to attend.
I'll make you crab soup sometime soon, Steve. Speaking of which, I can
only assume that folks liked the soup as it ran out fast!
Joe could not attend as he is playing "Nurse Ratchett" to his wife,
Kathryn, who recently had surgery on her right foot. Joe thought that
he was going to sneak out to Field Day and help out. I told him that if
he showed up, I'd have Hubcap and Bubba hog tie him and drive him right
back home. We hope that Kathryn is doing well, Joe, and we see your
smiling face around again soon.
Clint held a VE session on Sunday morning with four out of five
examinees passing. Like Larry the Cable Guy says, "Git-R-Done!" and
Clint certainly does. Helping Clint were Jim K4CGY and Keith KB3HHK.
I don't have a count of the participants, but I'll get that posted along
with the scores as soon as I can. I could not attend last year, but I
was told that attendance was down for this year.
Welcome back Joe, KB3DSR. I'll get you back on the roster PDQ.
It was nice to see the newer members out in force: Bill, Shirley, Pete
et al. There were many "old faces" that didn't show. You were missed.
The STARS of Field Day were the Youth Group running the GOTA station.
The kids put up the station including a 40' mast for two 40m loops.
Every time that I saw one of them, they were either making Q's or
eating. Geez, did you see 'em 'ere kids EAT! I'm sure glad that I
don't have to feed them on a daily basis. Better think about upping the
food budget next year, Keith... by two or three grand!
I understand that the Boy Scout Venture Team also did a good job running
the HF data station. The were located at the top end of the parking lot
and every time I started to make the trek back there, I got sidetracked.
There was no interference this year between the 20m Phone and CW
stations this year. Probably due to the fact that "outcasts" were
relegated to the low rent district at the bottom of the field. However,
they did have a nice big tent and sheltered private picnic table.
I also noticed that some of 'em 'ere kids showed up with "dates". They
do grow up fast.
Robbie the Repairman and Teresa (and three players to be named later)
did a magnificent job cutting down the jungle. Special Kudos to Rob the
younger for his help in getting the generator unpacked, fired up, and
cables run. Now THAT's a mechanic! Hey, Heath's, did you notice how
Krystal was Flirting with Andrew? Darned good thing we had him fixed or
we might have become impromptu in-laws.
Eric, sorry that I got side tracked. We'll give a look to your mobile
at the next meeting. Bring your manual.
SOME members were apparently invited to attend a special private dinner
in the FD Chairman's hospitality tent. However, they DID NOT invite the
FD chairman! It was those famous world class DX-piditioners, CW
contesters and other gadflies and ne'er-do'wells of Ham Radio.
Steve had hats made up by B&B for the Station Captains, Chef, and
chairman. Thank you very much, Steve, they are very much appreciated
and will be cherished by the recipients.
That's about it. I'm sure that there will be more in the upcoming issue
of the NewsWaves.
