[K3PZN-List] Wanted: Your opinion on Dual Band 144/440mhz Mobile Antennas

Jim,

I don't think there is a 5/8ths antenna on 2m that
works on 440 -- it would have a real strange pattern
on the higher band!

I used to use a 5/8ths mag mount monobander for 2m so
its possible mechanically .... I also used a mag mount
on 10m that is about same size.

I am using a nice rugged Comet antenna for 2m that is
also spec'ed to work on 440 - its about 16 inches long
and its flexible black rubber-like. I don't notice a
big difference in range compared to a cushcraft 5/8ths
on my son's car. My guess its only about an S-unit
difference, but maybe someone else has real data?
Given what a vehicle does to vertical antenna pattern
- maybe differences in antennas are over-stated.

Mag mount? If you vehicle allows a trunk lip mount
these are nifty - i am using the Cushcraft one on both
a sedan and a hatchback. Maybe its time for you to
try this.
