HOW ARE YOU SET FOR AN HF ANTENNA?
I received a QST New Product Announcement in the
mail from my ol' friend and long time fellow NASA
Engineer, Bob Zimmerman, NP4B ("NASA Pays 4 Bob").
[Note: Bob designed part of the MOLA instrument, the
Mars Orbiting Laser Altimeter, and subsequently
worked for VOA as an RF engineer at one of their xmtr
sites and other notable technical places and positions
as well.]
Bob and his new company, "Z Antenna Systems", has
introduced a line of compact loop antennas for the HF
Amateur Radio bands. Each antenna is said to be
"backpacker friendly". The antennas are available for
the following bands: 80m, 75m, 60m, 40m, 30m, 20m, 17m,
15m, 12m, 10m and 6m. The loops are four feet on a
side (paper announcement) and vary in strut length from
0.4 to 5.8 feet (website), ideal for apartment dwellers.
Cost is $75 USD (paper announcement) each or varies
from $48 to $85 USD (website) depending on band.
USA and Canada patents are pending for his Poynting
Loop antenna designs.
More info at http://home.cogeco.ca/~zantenna/ and
by e-mail directly to Bob at [email protected] and ...

I'd like to hear a frank evaluation from any fellow
members who try one or more. Maybe a subject for a
future club presentation too!

A FOLLOW-UP MESSAGE FROM BOB NP4B ...
Dear Pat,
Thanks for the publicity!
I now make the antennas "as small as possible"
without sacrificing performance. That means I do
not make them a uniform size, but rather scale
them for the band of interest. (This makes for
more machining here, but a smaller antenna.) The
actual sizes, weights, bandwidths, and prices are
on the website.

Again, thanks for the announcement.
Thanks Pat! 73, Bob Zimmerman, VE3/NP4B
