Al

Thanks for the post! I guess I resemble the remarks
as my first rig was controlled by a straight key,
although I am from the era when sending tests were
eliminated from FCC requirements - although after
passing my novice code test the examiner (a HS history
teacher at my school) persisted in giving me a sending
exam .... I probably would have never passed a sending
test at 13 wpm although i did use at first a straight
key when i returned to hobby in 1989 .... but it has
since collected dust. If you are willing to join us I
would be glad to put away my paddles and keyboard for
a little CW .... its still a very useful mode and I
have learned CW contesting with PC assistance is a
blast! No CW contests would not be fun without the PC
assistant, but I respect the heritage of pounding
brass. When I get back to restoring the HW16, it will
be a straight key machine until I acquire technology
to drive its high voltage from a keyer!
