CARROLL COUNTY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB Minutes
The Carroll County Amateur Radio Club met at the Fire Training Center on
November 10, 2004.
President Beckman called the meeting to order at 1935, there were 26
members present.
President Beckman made his announcements; each member introduced
themselves; there will be an RACES Commex will be conducted tomorrow
evening the 11th, let Larry WX3F know so he can arrange for you to be
allowed into the County EOC; the club holiday dinner will be held on Dec
7th at Boulevard and Beyond from 5PM to 8PM, cost $5.00 for members and
$15.00 per guest; the January meeting will feature a Build and Bring It
show and tell; the next board meeting will be Nov 19th at 7:30PM at the
FTC; the board is looking for Ham of the Year nominations; the Dec board
meeting will be a dinner meeting at Stables on the 17th at 7:30PM; the
club will participate in the Sweepstakes this weekend, let John AK3Z
know if you can help so that he can have sufficient food available,
starts at 4PM Saturday until 10PM Sunday; the club received a
certificate from the ARRL for the donation to the Spectrum Defense Fund;
he reviewed the mail recently received.
Secretary report � there was no old business; Joe N3YIM made the
following remarks, extra copies of the current Newswaves are available;
the AG center has been reserved for the 2004 Mason-Dixon Hamfest on
October 31st 2004; the Tailgate Fest will have to move to another date
as the 4H Fair is being extended and cleanup will be done on that
weekend, August 15th has tentatively been reserved subject to approval,
motioned by William KB3GHE, seconded by Steve NY3A to accept; voted and
passed.
Treasurers Report � Joe N3YIM read the treasurers report, motioned by
William KB3GHE and Seconded by Doug N3WWW to accept, voted and passed.
Board of Directors � John AK3Z gave the Board report, copy is posted in
the radio room.
Repeater � an effort to bring the remote site on line a few weeks ago
was unsuccessful as some microwave equipment essential to the completion
was missing to complete the setup.
ARES/RACES � no report
Publications � Joe N3YIM reported that the Jul-Sep issue is in the mail,
at 37 cents per copy; he needs input for the Oct-Dec issue, if you have
something please get it to Joe as soon as you can.
Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) � John W3JJH report the several club members
participated and he thanked all who helped; there were 23 visitors to
the station which included scouts and leaders; all modes of Ham radio
were used; the most fun they had was sending CW to each other.
Station � John AK3Z reported tower work was started on Nov 8-9; there
are presently no antennas on the tower; the tower plate has been
fabricated and new mast has been purchased; a rebuilt rotor has been
installed on the rotor plate, and the old rotor has been sent to Norms
Rotor Service for rebuilding and installation of a delay brake; a Wilson
40 tribander beam which will replace our old beam was donated by Jerry
N3GQK; weather permitting the new antennas will be installed this coming
weekend, these include the beam, a quad beam and a vertical; the county
has granted permission for the club to use the other existing tower,
could be used for 40 meters and satellite antennas as well; sweepstakes
will be conducted this weekend from 4PM Saturday until 10PM Sunday,
there will be fun and food; there was further discussion on installing
the antennas onto the tower which included the use of a crane.
Membership � no report
Digital � John K3KWO report the net will change from 10 meters to 6
meters, 50.290 due to poor propagation on 10.
Youth � Doug N5LBJ reports that the first class will be in January 2004,
he will present a complete schedule at the December meeting.
Education and Training - Clint W3ARS reported a Skywarn Basic I class
and Flood Course are being planned for March 2004; the Fall/Winter
schedule is posted on the Web site and a copy is in the Radio room.
New Business;
Doug N5LBJ motioned �that the club donate the sum of $25.00 for support
of the Echo and Eagle satellites, to AMSAT�, seconded by John K3KWO,
voted and passed.
The raffle was won by Rob K1RH, $17.50.
A Hamfest Debrief;
1) What went well; the PA system; the map and prize list on the flyer;
the QRP seminar; and the lunch coupons for the workers.
2) What we need to improve on; seminar planning; unlicensed spouses and
children free admission; gift certificates for prizes, especially for
non-hams; the caterer B&B needs to be briefed on improving their service
and menu; flyers should be ready for the following years events; pick up
the building keys on Friday so we can get in Saturday; need to put up
the General Parking and Tailgate signs; need a sign for Handicap
Parking; have club applications at the club table; information about the
club should be available at the club table; make sure that the PL is not
on the repeater; the membership approved the formation of a Hamfest
Improvements Committee, current members are Al K3ZE and Steve N3SB,
others are asked to join.
Al K3ZE explained the features of the new sweatshirt with radio pocket
that Joyce N3GQJ was wearing, he considers it rather pricy and will look
for vendor for a better price on the shirts and the patches, vendors
suggested were Galls for the shirt and Lion Bros for the patch.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 2125.
