Can someone please pass this traffic for tonight's meeting? Tnx!
For Digital Committee
After reading the club newsletter last Thursday and being fired up
about the digital net, and not hearing anyone else, I opened the
net on 28.120 MHz PSK31 at about 8:30 p.m.
Got one checkin: Curt, WB8YYY. It was a good net, running almost
3/4 hour. Got a chance to troubleshoot my PSK31 setup. Was
battling three problems. 1. Lack of transceiver stability.
2. Trouble with PTT not kicking in on Xmit right away. 3. Heavy
dc noise on band. Thanks, Curt, for your help on some!
Letting the radio warm up helped on the first one, although the
ol' TS-130S appears not to be cut out for rock solid frequency
stability. The PPT got progressively worse and I isolated the
problem to my interface. I'll work more on that soon. And,
finally, regarding the heavy noise, during the course of the net
I just stayed put between the harmonics (lines on the freeware
DigiPan "waterfall" display). Later I traced the noise to the
wall-wart used by the laptop. Apparently it's not regulating
the power supply as nicely as it should. I just disconnected
it and used battery power.
Any one for continuing the 10m PSK31 net? It is especially FB
for Tech Plus hams!
Take care and 73,
Pat
