CARROLL COUNTY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB Minutes

The Carroll County Amateur Radio Club met on May 12th, at the Fire 
Training Center.

President Beckman called the meeting to order at 1930, and set the 
agenda for the evening.

There were 29 members and 1 guest present.

Steve N3SB, announced that the next Board meeting will be conducted next 
Wednesday, May 21st at 7:30PM at the FTC, all members are welcome, the 
main topic of discussion will be the 2003-04 club budget which is due 
for a vote by the membership at the June meeting; it is time to renew 
membership for several members, dues can be paid this evening; it has 
been suggested by Larry WX3F, that members set their 2 meter radios to a 
PL of 114.8, this to stop the interference that has been experienced on 
the repeater recently; the next ARES/RACES exercise will be tomorrow 
evening, let Larry know for admission into the EOC; there will be a fox 
hunt, sponsored by the ARES/RACES committee, on May 31st, meet at Winter 
Mill School which is behind McDonalds off Gorsuch Road at 9:30AM; Tony 
KF3AK, has resigned as a liaison to the Foundation for Amateur Radio 
(FAR), the club needs to renew its membership in FAR and replace Tony, 
he also stated that the Cycle Across Maryland will be in Carroll County 
on July the 24th staying at the Westminster High School overnight, 
amateurs will be needed and he will relay any further information as he 
receives it, there is a web site for the event at www.onelesscar.org.

Secretary report, was presented by Joe N3YIM, there were two motions 
from last month to be voted on this meeting, motioned by William KB3GHE 
to approve, seconded by John W3JJH, voted and passed.

Treasurers report was given by Bill N3WM, copy attached to record file, 
motioned by John W3JJH to approve, seconded by William KB3GHE voted and 
passed.

Board of Directors report, John AK3Z, reported on the April Board 
meeting, a copy of the meeting is posted in the radio room, the board 
discussed the budget and the motions to purchase an ARRL library and 
antenna analyzer.

Committee Reports;

Repeater - no report.

ARES/RACES - no report.

Publications � Joe N3YIM reported that the current issue of NEWSWAVES 
has been mailed and requested that anyone with input for the next issue 
get it to him as soon as possible.

Station � Filters for the Kenwood 850 are here but not installed, the 
next big project is to get the tower plate fabricated and installed so 
improvements to the antennas can be completed.

Training and Education � the committee met recently to address ways of 
increasing youth interest in amateur radio, and to help those youth 
interested or anyone to become licensed and/or upgrade; there have been 
a few test session where new hams and upgrades have been accomplished; 
the committee is waiting for ARRL to upgrade their training tapes and 
then make their purchase; the main effort in recruiting youth will 
target teachers in all schools and through the local fire departments.

Membership � no report.

Digital � the committee met this evening prior to the club meeting, the 
objective of the committee is to assist members to become digital 
operators, they will meet next month prior to the club meeting, and any 
member interested is encouraged to attend.

Tailgate Fest � Mike N3VOP needs to get all the information from past 
TGF�s from Joe N3YIM.

Field Day � nothing to report, they will meet immediately following this 
meeting to formulate plans and begin preparations for field day activities.

Old Business;

On the motion to purchase an antenna analyzer for the club, purchase 
price was quoted by Doug N5LBJ to be $458.69, after much discussion the 
vote was called, the motion did not pass on a vote of 15-13.

On the motion to purchase the ARRL library, a price of $318.80 was 
quoted by Doug N5LBJ, after discussion the vote was called, the motion 
passed on a vote of 21-7.

New Business;

The Training and Education committee was formed, those volunteering 
were, Al K3ZE, Clint W3ARS, Keith KB3HHK, Bryan AA3XZ, Eric KB3HKG, 
William KB3GHE, Travers KB3HNO and Doug N5LBJ, motioned by Mike N3VOP, 
seconded by Doug N5LBJ to accept the committee, voted and passed.

Unofficial, the 50/50 drawing was won by Mike KB3JIY.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 2045.
