Greetings All:
I have been asked if there is a problem with the 2 meter repeater. I
took a look at it Saturday and did not find anything out of the ordinary.
This past week the repeater has been receiving noise bursts on the input
frequency that keeps kerchunking the machine. Sometimes the noise burst
was long enough to time out the repeater. I started to notice that the
noise burst about Wednesday. At first, since the burst were infrequent,
I thought that it may have been distant stations coming in due to
enhanced propagation. Later in the week the noise was being more
consistent and in longer duration. It was now becoming obnoxious.
Thursday I started turning on the CTCSS (PL) decoder to quiet the
repeater. I guess it was about this time that users may have thought
there was a problem with the repeater because they would try to access it
and receive no response.
PROGRAM YOUR RADIO TO TRANSMIT A CTCSS TONE 114.8 HZ anytime you use the
K3PZN repeater. This way you will have access to the repeater.
Saturday afternoon (about 1 PM) I turned off the CTCSS decoder and the
repeater has been quiet. This leaves me to think that the noise may be
coming from a welding machine or other construction machine in the nearby
area. Anyone who lives in the area of Gorsuch road to Finksburg, take a
listen on the repeater input frequency to discover where the location of
the noise is coming from. If you do discover some noise, please send me
the following information:
Date and Time of Day
Signal level as read on your S-meter (ie - 5 bars, S-6)
Direction (Beam heading) if you have a rotating beam.
Location of maximum received noise (If you happen to be mobile)
Thanks es 73,
