How did things go up there? I worked K3PZN on 80M Sat. night inbetween
static crashes (as W4MLB).
We ran 2 sites here - one class 2A at a local park and one class 2F from
the Red Cross. The A station got very wet with about 5" of rain, there
was a tarp failure during generator refueling that deposited about 3 gal
of water into the generator fuel tank (we had a backup), and our push up
mast folded over in the middle during the first thunder storm at 12pm.
We got some tower sections and managed to get them up and the station on
the air by about 4pm.
Things went better at the Red Cross building no major problems but one
of the anchors for the temporary 3rd tower found a sprinkler line. All
told we got about 700 CW, 850 SSB, and 200 from the GOTA sation from
the class F operation, I don't have the totals from the park yet but I
suspect they were just lucky to survive. In any case it was obvious
that the weather in FL isn't the best for field day.
