Hi Clint

I used to work VHF contests back in the 60's. Really had a lot of fun. Oh,
buy the way, what I forgot to say was I worked them from the mountain tops
of Northeast PA. Today there is one of the top contest groups in the
nationworking out of there, it is k3ytl. I have been invited to work with
them many times, but work, health or other reasons have prevented me from
doing that.

If we ryly have some folks interested in VHF contesting, I would be
interested in working with them to see if we couldn't get a CCARC VHF/UHF
group together.

Although I believe every contest should be fun .. serious VHF contests are
really not the place for picnics, non hams, new people except for observance
of techniques and loging. They style of setting up is pretty much like FD
except you want to get as high on that mountain as you can, then you put up
the biggest antennas and tower as you can because thats what VHF/UHF
contesting is about. A kw will not dig you out of a hole and if you don't
know how to work with higher frequencies, your signal will be lost in your
SWR. This type of contesting is very reminicent of amateur radio ... the
way it used to be, except for the modern radios etc. IF the CCARC is
interested, it would take time to build a competitive group with the proper
equipment. I have been seriously out of it for such as long time that I
would have a lot to learn and relearn. One thing different than FD, its
possible to leave the antenna structures etc. in place if your lucky enough
to have a cabin or mobile home somewhere up on a mountain.

In any event, if you would like to consider a formalized efort in one of the
future VHF contests, let me know.
