Well it was fun to try! I could copy only 20% of net
control and copied only n3sb, n3sok and aa3eu (before
the net when he was looking for it!) With his beam at
60 feet Steve was S9 + here. There is a ridge between
Eldersburg and Westminister that might have done us
in. That explains part of the 70 dB difference
between Steve and Doug down here! Also since we were
using 10m as a "vhf band" we may have not all been
co-polarized. We generally have good line of sight
across south carroll as i was talking to Mike N3VOP
(who lives near opposite end) and W3ARS on 2m simplex
who were both strong. So maybe next time we need to
try 80m and put the ionosphere to work! There is
usually plenty of space in the psk subband around 3580
kHz.
So much for my thought of us all trying SSTV on 10m as
that requires a much higher signal to noise ratio!
