Fellow Club Members:
I have been given the job of handling an estate and am trying to find a home
for a free TriEx tower. The tower is 65 feet tall and is a 3 piece monopole
with climbing rungs on either side. The tower is self supporting and is
bolted to a large concrete foundation. It also comes with a chain drive
rotator and can handle VERY large arrays. The tower weighs 1600 lbs and
will require a crane and flatbed to remove and transport it. It has been in
service since 1964 and has been well maintained up until the last 15 years
or so. It will need to be scraped and repainted and checked before
installation. The tower has only been used to support a 3 element 20 meter
beam during the first 25 years or so. The monobander was replaced with a 6
element Telrex tribander about 14 years ago. Note that the Telrex tribander
is not included with the tower. So I do not think it has been stress too
much over the years. But it may be wise to have a structural guy check it
out before removing it. Buying a tower like this today would cost a LOT of
money--probably in excess of $15,000.
The tower is free to anyone who is willing to pay and/or provide the labor
to remove it. This will be a small price to pay for a tower like this and
being a monopole is not much of an eyesore when painted. Sold without
guarantees of course and is up to the new owner to check out before
re-installation. I have all technical details if you have any questions.
Please let me know if you are interested so that we can make arrangements
for you to remove it. Otherwise I will offer to other clubs and/or PVRC.
Thanks.
