Hi Larry;

I'm a big Icom 706 fan myself...

I've had the Mark II and now have the Mark-II-G - for
the money, they are hard to beat.

There are plenty of original 706's and Mark-II's for
sale on the used market at a good price a quick search
of completed items on EBay shows that 706's sold for
as low as $440!

The original (old) version has 2 - 160 meters - only
10 watts on 2 meters. The Mark II version has 20
watts on 2 meters. The Mark II-G version has 50 watts
on 2 meters (I think) and adds 440mhz with 20 watts.

The 706 Mark II-G can be bought new for $780 - shipped
to your door.

Now for your alternative choice, N3SB and AK3Z can
comment on their Yaesu FT-100's - which is an
excellent competitor.

73 & good mobiling,

Jim Nitzberg  WX3B
