Pete,

We have begun discussing night such as these and hope to start a trend by
opening the station several nights a month to all members. So I heartily
support your suggestion and think it would be interesting and fun for all.
It may also get more folks involved. I will be happy to discuss further at
the next meeting.

> I was reading the June issue of CQ magazine the other day and an article
about Ham Radio University reminded me of a club I belonged to many years
ago. The club would have its business meeting one day of the month, and a
"tech" night on a different night. The tech night was, essentially, a hands
on session where we would make something or learn something new about
amateur radio. At one point, members actually built a 1.2 GHZ microwave
system, using coffee cans as antennas. Anyway, what I'm getting around to
is this: the tech nights taught us new ways to enjoy Amateur radio.....SSTV,
VHF, UHF, QSLing techniques, DXing, contesting, kit building, etc. These
tech nights were kind of a follow on to the licensing classes. They helped
people get on the air, and learn new ways to experience the hobby. It was
sort of like group Elmering. I'm wondering 1) if this concept would be
feasible here, and 2) if there is interest.
