Members,
If you missed the November Sweepstakes at the club station you really missed
out on a great time. Typical of a CCARC "3GF" event (great fun, good
fellowship, & gourmet food), a good time was had by all. The "imported"
delicacies included absolutely delicious roast chicken, barbecued ribs that
were to die for and all the trimmings. Even if you didn't want to operate,
the food and the fun were worth the trip.
Those members that did attend included the usual suspects and not all of the
"ribs" were of the barbecued variety with the standard teasing, quips,
barbs, jibes, jokes, laughs and general good fun that are the hallmark of
CCARC events and activities. I had a blast logging for Joe "Whawazat"
Ebaugh (N3YIM). It must of been planned to put us two old buffaloes
together. Neither one of us hear as well as we used to, so what Joe missed
I got and vice versa. "Radio Rob" Heath (K1RH) and Mike "The Hook" Fisher
(N3VOP) were picking stations out of the QRM like ticks off a Tennessee
hound dog. Some of the other ham radio gadflies and ner-do-wells in
attendance were Steve "Sweeper" Beckman (N3SB), Jim "The Kilowatt King"
Nitzberg (WX3B), Jerry "Work 'Em All" Suvall (N3GQK), Clint "Bubba" Brosenne
(W3ARS), John "Chuckles" Chesley (AK3Z), Bryan "Sugar Bear" Kent (AA3XZ),
Joyce "The Voice" Suvall (N3GQJ), and Larry "The Logger" Solarczyk (WX3F).
While I can understand that a lot of the members are not contesters, I just
can't figure why there were only 13 members who participated in the
activities. The club voted to hold the event and cater the affair so why
was the attendance so low? Funny how you always see the same members turn
out for deals like this one. It was like a mini Field Day. And, those of you
who weren't there will miss out on receiving one of the infamous CCARC
certificates of participation. Why just the thought of grabbing one of
these highly sought after pieces of wallpaper (second only to DXCC, 5BWAS,
etc.) should have had you all coming to the event in droves.
I hope that the club will do this again for the November SS and/or some of
the other biggy contests. Who knows, we might even get 14 members to
participate next time.
