[K3PZN-List] Field Day Update:

While I think it is not fair that we have to pay fees to operate at Gamber,
most of the other sites do not have any shelters and/or facilities. So if
we go to another place (like Hashawa), we have to factor in what it will
cost the club to buy tents, etc. Probably more than $200. On the other
hand, we are buying our freedom to operate at other locations and the tents
and equipment can be used in future field days. And we are giving ourselves
valuable training experience.

If we pay Gamber this year, what is to keep them from raising the price next
year? Meanwhile, we shell out a couple hundred bucks every year when we
could be investing in our own independence.

If we can not find a local place that will let us do it for free or for some
service in return, I think we should bite the bullet and set ourselves up
for some real emergency operating. With the budget crunch, not a good time
to be spending more, but I think we need to set ourselves up for the future.

John, AK3Z

PS. Operating at the FTC is convenient but to me not really a "field" day.
