Subject: [K3PZN-List] THE CONTESTER

As the story goes, there was this ham who was an absolutely rabid contester.
You name the contest, he participated. 24 hours, 48 hours, no matter. He
would work it from start to finish. Nothing would interrupt or stop him
from contesting. They say that if his house caught fire during a contest,
he would be found charred and dead with his hand on the key or the
microphone.
During a Field Day a few years back, the ham as at it hot and heavy. No one
dared to talk to him or disturb him in any way. Well, it just so happened
that the FD site was adjacent to a cemetery and there was a funeral taking
place. As the casket was carried from the hurse to the gravesite, suddenly
the ham stopped CQ'ing and looked up. He then stood, removed his ball cap
with "Contest or Die" embroidered on, placed the cap over his heart and
bowed his head for a moment. The club members were stunned!
After the close of FD, the club president walked up to the ham and said,
"Ya' know, that was a very touching thing that you did for the deceased
during that funeral yesterday. I never thought that I'd see you stop for
anything in the middle of a contest."
To which the ham answered, "Aw, hell, it was the least that I could do. She
was a good XYL for thirty years."
