FYI -
I just got a postcard in the mail from Ten Tec,
advertising a modest discount in their 1300-series of
QRP transceiever kits - regularly & 95 - now are $ 83
until end of July (shipping is about) $ 5 additional.
Maybe this is enough to get someone to consider
building a rig, maybe for the first time? I have the
1340 for 40m and i can testify that it is a solid,
well designed rig. It performs well, and can also be
considered for someone wanting off-the-air CW signals
to copy while also gaining building experience. The
case is very rugged and has a nice appearance, good
for home use and casual outdoor use - but too heavy
for serious hiking! I think 40m is the best choice
since it has less QRN than 80m, and is open for QSOs
more often then higher bands - but i am sure some
people have different opinions. It looks like the
discount is not mentioned on website, so ask for it
when you order.

There are also other fine QRP kit options, for example
Small Wonders Labs has smaller, lighter rigs for CW
and also PSK-31 rigs. This article has info on
alternatives:

I have not built anything since the K2 and i probably
have enuff, ok too much stuff in the shack so nothing
is on the horizon. Been working on
repairs/maintenance to antenna farm, and hope to
upgrade the shack as I was inspired some (don't
laugh!) by KE3FL's picture at his website. I also
plan to set up more convenient provisions for
emergency power operation as this stuff is present,
just not wired in yet.
