 ------------------------------ NEWS --------------------------------
 - Congrats to Travers for passing his Tech exam! Congrats to Alex
   for his new call: KB3HLP.

 * The ARRL: Now offers an on-line 'Antenna Restrictions "How To"
   Chart' -
   http://www.ARRL.org/FandES/field/regulations/ant-how-to-charts.html
   which offers three separate outlines that help users to logically
   work through issues involving local government zoning
   restrictions; deed covenants, conditions and restrictions (CC&Rs);
   or rental/lease restrictions relating to antenna structures.

 - CQ Magazine: CQ VHF to Resume Publication! It is starting out as a
   quarterly publication and CQ editor: Joe Lynch, N6CL, will be the
   Editor of the new magazine. On a personal note, I have two articles
   in at CQ magazine which they now want to shift over to the VHF
   magazine. So, I may get published a bit sooner than later. (ke3fl)

 - The MADXRA Thursday Night Net is back on the air on the 147.060+

   N2CSQ by e-mail or radio.

   posted at <http://www.madxra.org>. We also plan to e-mail them as
   attachments to each addressee registered in the MADXRA reflector.
   If you'd like paper copies via SnailMail just advise N2CSQ by
   e-mail or radio.

   Registration for Level II will open on the second Monday, 01/14;
   Registration for Level III (EC-003) will open on the 3rd Mon, 01/21

 - Frederick County ARES will present a training class in NTS message
   format and net procedures 08:30 to 16:30 on Saturday, 19 January
   2002. Class will be held at the Frederick County Animal Control
   Building, 1832 Rosemont Avenue, Frederick, Maryland. WX
   contingency date is 26 January. Bring a sweater; that class room
   can be COLD.

 - Comments are due February 12, 2002, in an FCC Notice of Proposed
   Rule Making and Order, ET Docket 01-278, that ARRL has targeted as
   a potential band threat. Reply comments are due on March 12,
   2002. The proceeding deals in part with a potential threat to the
   popular 70-cm band from Part 15 RF identification devices proposed
   for deployment between 425 and 435 MHz.
   -
   Commenters are advised to read paragraphs 20-27 of the NPRM&O,
