Hi Steve,

NEWS: Just to let you and the CCARC club know that this past
weekend I brought up an APRS node on the national APRS frequency
of 144.390 MHz FM simplex at my home QTH. I'm working the bugs
out of it with the intention that it will be a full-time 24/7
service to all in the greater CCARC area.

As far as I know, it is the only full-time dedicated APRS station
in Carroll County right now. (BTW, my QTH is at 800-feet AMSL at
ground level!) Other similar nodes are in the works for western
Baltimore County. Hopefully there will be "full coverage" for
APRS users in our region before the end of this year.

Carroll County is now on the APRS map in the global network! Check
out http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi?call=n8pk&radar=*** and
enjoy.

FYI, see also http://www.aprs.org or http://www.tapr.org or
http://aprs.rutgers.edu/ for more information on the APRS mode.

I'd be glad to talk about APRS at future CCARC meetings and on the
repeater. In fact, I recently sent an invitation (or re-sent,
actually) to the father of APRS, Bob Bruninga WB4APR, requesting a
formal APRS presentation at a future clubs meeting, or perhaps we
could interest him in leading an APRS forum at this fall's
Mason-Dixon hamfest.

I hope the club will find this service on 144.390 MHz and the
Internet backbone of value.

More later.

Sincerely,

Pat N8PK
