Ok.  So we will need to make a decision. Food for thought (I love a good
pun):

1.  If we can't schedule the party before the end of the year we forget it
and return all of the durable goods.
2.  If we can't schedule the party before the end of the year we forget it
and keep all of the durable goods until next year (not recommended).
3.  If we can't schedule the party before the end of the year we re-schedule
in Jan/Feb and call it something else--like a mid-winter party or end of
year party, etc. and give out the gifts.

No need to decide tonight or until Larry has heard back from the VFW (but we
really only have two weekends left).  We can discuss further on Thursday.
But most folks will usually be dieting and not spending as much money once
the holidays are gone.  So I am thinking we might be out of luck for this
year.  Any way you cut it, we need to distribute the plants if we can't have
our "Holiday" party within the next two weeks.

Your presumption is correct.  I had called the VFW telephone number for Hall
activities and did not get an answer, even after leaving a message on the
answering device.  But, by way of rumor, there are no open dates remaining
in December.  I will try again to get someone this week to get a definitive
answer to our questions.

Since we are planning to meet at Stables for dinner on Thursday at 7:00 PM,
let's have our weekly Board meeting at that time.

PS.   I have not heard or seen anything about re-scheduling the Holiday
Dinner.  So I presume the VFW is booked.  I have been nurturing the 9
Pointsettias since Pete picked them up.  If we can't squeeze the party in
this weekend would like to distribute the plants among Board members who
would like one/some.  I can use  2-3 as I buy them at this time of year
anyway.  We can always save the durable goods for another time...
