Greetings Bill;
Good reading for a rainy day (or weekend.) It does seem that the rules are
meant to facilitate orderly and fair meetings.
There's a very old version of the rules that requires all meetings to be
conducted in Latin! ;-)

Guys-
A pox upon me. My previous experience was with trying to read the original
(or maybe the 1915) version of the 'rules'.
Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to review both the latest
'official'
set of rules, and the 'dummies' commentary about them.
I found them to be much more user friendly, and amazingly easy to
understand/follow.
As a result, my previous negative opinion has been replaced by a positive
opinion.
I especially like that provisions have been built in to prevent the abuse
of
the rules to thwart the orderly proceedings of a meeting.
I do believe that we still need to update our by-laws, because the book
called for (Robert's Rules of Order, revised) doesn't actually exist
anymore.
The newest set of rules in print is Robert's Rules of Order, newly revised.
My suggestion is to delete the text completely from the bylaws, and insert
some verbiage to the effect that the BOD shall set the rules of order, but
that changes don't take effect until after a election.
