Don't fret over it, Frank. This just proves that one person
cant't/shouldn't do it all. We'll get the names for the mailing eventually.
We should STILL be able to get things folded and stuffed anyway.

Take care. Enjoy your week away if you can.

Subject: Fund Raiser Names& Addresses

Hi Guys;
Wish I had some good news, but unfortunately some temporary bad news.

I spent quite a number of hours trying to get the names and address that I
screen scraped into a format usuable to one of the Office programs. From
there iti is possible to convert the DB into anything.

Since the captured data had no definate fields or delimiters, it was hard to
work with. Just about everything had to be done manually and almost on a
record for record basis.

THE BAD NEWS
The bad news is two fold. First after getting rid of trash and unusable
information, the 1,000 I thaught I had boiled dowm to what looks like 225 or
so.

The second part of the bad news is that after weeding out all the junk and
getting them into a state that was clean enough to begin to reformat (again
maybe on a one for one basis), I lost the master file. That what I get for
working so late that I was asleep at the keyboard. I have tried everything I
know to recover but the sequence of events was such that the backup was
destroyed before I realized the master was kaput. The worst thing was that I
had a number of separate parts of databases in different formats in separate
worksheets in EXCEL (like all the eggs are in one basket), in the process of
being reworked into a single format and single worksheet. From there we can
take the data into access and/or work and make labels, print the inside
letter and possibley the return card. Apparently no backup from EXCEL was
kept, not a temp work file. The last recovered file lookes like it hadn't
been updated for awhile and most of the formatted data was lost.

THE GOOD NEWS
I have recovered most of the original raw files. Knowing what I know now, I
can probably rebuild in a much shorter time. If I sent them to you guys, it
would probably take you more than a week to get enough time with a good
editor to get the job done as it is labor intensive. So I will be back in a
week and rebuild what I lost. THis also tells me that we may need more
sources than the one I used to get the names and addresses. If all of
Eldersburg and Sykesville bought only 250 names (zip 21784) I would expect
Westminster etc. to generate a larger number, but maybe not enough. We amy
still have to go the Chamber of Commerce rout. Also if we could get each
meber to type up at least 25 of the professional people and companies they
deal with, we can get a few there.

See you in a week or so.
