Board Members
I will be available on Saturday morning.
We need to present this project to the Club in the form of a basic motion
from the BoD. Since we accepted the vehicle, it is incumbent upon us to "put
it on the road" safely. That means the cost of labor and parts (throw in an
oil, lube and filter change along with a transmission filter change) ,
further inspection costs, title and tags, and insurance. Other immediate
costs may be to stop any advancing body deterioration and addition of towing
package if not already installed.
Beyond that, it is also incumbent upon us to have a broad longer range plan,
convene a special van committee, and present any methods of additional
funding we can think up.
As far as additional funding is concerned, I would suggest we try to find
out what money has been made available to the state and county for Homeland
Security. I'll bet there is more money waiting to be spent right now than
was available for Civil Defense since day one. The other source I strongly
suggest is a fund raiser. I have worked on several over the years from small
neighborhood projects, to fireman's building fund drives to way back in the
60's campaigns for Danny Thomas St. Jude's Children's hospitals.. Some of
these were professionally managed but most were locally done. All successful
fund drives had the same characteristics.
A letter/fund drive pamphlet would have to be put together outlining who we
are, what our objectives are, how they will benefit the citizens of Carroll
County, how we intend to accomplish out goals and then to relate the goals
to amounts of donations. We would then need to send the letter and or
personally deliver it and a sales pitch (if we have any good salesmen in the
club) to county businesses who would be our primary target. Our
organizations we have helped and individuals would also be on the donation
list and not to be left out, churches and other charitable organizations.
Although the campaign should be done professionally, it does not need to
have professional management.
This fund raising would be entirely legal from the FCC view point we ask no
compensation for any services we provide. I don't believe that corporate
charter affect us in any way otherwise we wouldn't be doing the hamfest.
That fact that we an incorporated, charitable institution should help us
immensely.
Think about it, $25 donation from 100 businesses is $2,500; $50 = $5,000.
Is this goal a reasonable minimum to expect with a little work:
Donor's) Amount donated (each) total Cumulative Total
1 $500 $500 $500
2 $250 $500 $1,000
10 $100 $1,000 $2,000
20 $50 $1,000 $3,000
40 $25 $1,000 $4,000
50 $10 $500 $4,500
100 $5 $500 $5,000
This is only with 223 donors. There will be costs associated with the
campaign, but if most contact is done personnaly and via mail. the cost
should be minimal. Also it would not be unreasonable to either do a one time
assessment of each club member (100x$50 ea) = $5,000. Personally, I would
like to see a campaign plus a one time assessment of $25 (one per family)
yielding $2,500 with 100 club members participating. Most Clubs I belong too
charge much more than that in dues each year. And lets face it, if you can
afford HAM radio, you can afford $25. When we were putting up the K3PZN/r,
we had a treasury of about $100. With a little work by only 3 or 4 people,
we raised almost $3,000 in equipment and cash not counting the donation of a
used base, cavities, etc. that we turned into a repeater.
The point here fellow CCARC members, we know it can be done BECAUSE IT HAS
BEEN DONE! The only question is can we find those couple of members willing
to sacrifice their time, energy and maybe a couple of $$$. We talk about
training young folks.
I for one would be willing to work on a fund raiser committee.

Doug;
Thanks for providing the estimate info.
Board -- We have to decide if a motion should be made at next Monday's

In the meantime, discussion on the reflector is encouraged!
