Good Morning Guys:

Last night I though the figures we came up with were a little high and the
insurance would be out of sight. Unfortunately I was ill and didn't make the
meeting this was discussed. Obviously, considering everything else, this is
a prohibitive amount. Wait until we have to insure the van and its
equipment.
If we haven't, we need to see what the implication of this evaluation is
relative to personal property taxes.

We probably evaluated the 2 meter repeater based on a brand new Motorola
replacement. When I was Repeater Committee Chairman, I did the same but I
don't think feed line and antennas were insurable back then. But, as I
believed back then and I still believe today that we could put a repeater
together for a whole lot less. How do I know that ... because we did it the
way most clubs do it, or at least used to do it. Kluge receivers,
transmitters, power amps, preamps and controllers into a repeater the way we
have several times in the past. The problem here is I sense the members are
not will to spend the time we did back then and are more appliance
operators. I have had no formal electronics training but I participated in
the building of several repeaters and a couple pretty much myself including
having designed and built the repeater controller and all the audio boards.
Now am I trying to sing the praises of K3MTT, no, what I am trying to say
that I can do it ... anyone with an ounce of brains (cause that's all I got)
and the drive to do it ... can. Believe me, HAM radio was a lot more fun
for me when we were building our own repeaters etc.

Anyhow, maybe we need to change the way we have evaluated our repeaters.
Replacement cost doesn't d mean what we paid for it or even what its cost
is today. It means replacing all or part with a FUNCTIONAL EQUIVALENT. In
all the years I have operating, I have lost only one feed line to lightning.
Given the risk, I am son that risk assessment, we may have to not insure
some items or undervalue some. Again, if we drop antennas, feed line and
evaluate based on a used replacement price, the insurance cost should be
more realistic.

Maybe the Club ought to do a mini risk analysis and determine our insurable
amount based on risk and on used/hamfest prices with club members labor
discounted. This may be more realistic method to come up with amount.

Do we have a spreadsheet listing the equipment and the values placed on each
item. I would like to get a copy to review.

Guys:

The total yearly premium including the Admin fee is $997.41. The
coverage cost is $1.50 per $100 plus $7 Admin fee.

While this is a lot more than we planned, it seems logical for over $66K
of coverage.

Let me know your comments.

Thanks.

John
