Jimmy,

Amatuer radios only are allowed to operate on the ham bands. While you could “modify” a radio to transmit outside those bands, it is illegal, and threatens to carry a minimum $10,000 dollar fine per transmission and possible jail time with criminal charges that could mar your record for life.

Even to operate on commercial bands, you need a commercial license.

Hello to the Group,

FYI, and Just for fun,

AnyTone has a new DMR radio out called AT-D890.
It is very similar to the AT-D878.  Batteries and accessories are
interchangeable.
The major differences are two (2) actual receivers and the future
ability to do the digital mode NXDN.

The radio works well in the DMR node.

Additionally, when using "unofficial" NXDN firmware, the radio worked
well with a hot spot.
I have been talking on the NXDN World Wide "65000" TalkGoup.
The TG is not very busy but people are listening.
There is an NXDN repeater in Alexandria, VA

At present, NXDN has not been officially released, so it is NOT
supported.
BridgeComm is selling the same radio called "Maverick",

If you would like to read up on NXDN
