...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM EDT THIS EVENING THROUGH

LATE TONIGHT...

Showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon, with possible locally damaging winds and heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding between 5pm and midnight tonight. The highest concentration of storms looks to remain over the DC metro, Southern Maryland, and central/southeast VA. There is a Flood Watch in these locations for 1-3" of rain (higher in VA) 6pm-2am. Localized rainfall rates of 2” per hour are possible. Additional showers and thunderstorms are expected Saturday afternoon and evening (3-9pm). Damaging winds and additional flash flooding concerns are possible as multiple rounds of thunderstorms move through. More showers are expected Sunday, and there is a chance for storms Monday and Tuesday as well.

Heavy rain in short periods of time may cause rapid rises to creeks and streams out of their banks along with the potential for flash flooding in urban areas.
