HP's test equipment and instrument division was split off in 1999 and became Agilent. It was further divided and the test equipment division split off again in 2014 and became Keysight Technologies. They still make really good (and expensive) test equipment.

They were the standard years ago and over time disappeared.  The only thing I can think of is when Carly Fiorina took over as CEO, she forced them to buy Compaq, and drove HP into the ground, almost destroying the entire company.  I spoke with a few former HP employees several years ago and they both agreed she destroyed the company.
