On Saturday, February 24th, Shawn- N3AE, Les- KH6CUJ, and Andy- KC3WRX set up at the annual Calvert High School Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics(STEM)Expo in the hope of introducing our younger folks to Amateur Radio. Along with displays of antennas, CW keyer, QSO cards, a video presentation, digital modes, QST Magazine, and radio equipment, CARA provided opportunities for them to make their first contact on HF and, thanks to all our members who were monitoring the repeaters, VHF/UHF. Once any nervousness passed, those who “got on the air” seemed to enjoy it. Using the club callsign, we got lucky and were able to DX with France, Spain, and Slovenia during the event. We answered a lot of questions from all ages so hopefully we sparked some interest that will be pursued. It was a great afternoon and we’re looking forward to next year.
