Erik,

Sounds like a great opportunity to bring some more positive exposure to Amateur Radio and to CARA.

Lots of things that can be done....

Communication support for the event staff, participation in the parade it's self, a booth at the fair grounds and placing an ad in the parade program. I could help with communication from a net control stand point if needed. I also have, and so do others, the amateur radio emergency communication safety vest. These could be worn at the parade for a visual impact. I believe the club has some for sale if others need them.

This idea was suggested to me by one of our members:

The Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen's Association Convention will be hosting a parade in downtown Prince Frederick on Sunday, April 30th as part of the SMVFA Convention. Prince Frederick VFD is the host company for this event. The Parade is schedule to begin at 12 noon with unit registration beginning at 10 am. Unit staging will be at Calvert High school and the last stop is Co. 2 Station before continuing to the fairgrounds for the muster / games / events. The event registration packet that contains the information about the parade can be found at the SMVFA website:

I think that this is an opportunity for the club to get our name out to the public and the SMVFA members, so that even if we are not needed for this event it may open the door for other opportunities. My thought is that we can assist with communications for the parade that will neither tie up the public safety radio system nor burden the cellular phone system.

Any of our members that are interested in this opportunity please contact me as soon as possible as I have not yet contacted the organization.
