First off, thanks to all that participated, planned, donated, or any way supported CARA Field Day this year. It was a tremendous success! Lots of cooperative antenna and station building on site on Saturday morning. Great food. A nice cool indoor site to operate from. We had a visit from an elected official, Chris Gadway, County Commissioner who presented an Amateur Radio month proclamation and a challenge coin to our president. Retired Deputy Craig Kontra candidate for county sheriff also visited. Our Section EC Jim Montgomery WB3KAS and Wanda Montgomery KA3AHI came bearing gifts for our newest ham and a few others, along with some stickers and such.
Lots of folks showed up early Saturday morning to erect antennae and get power to our 3A operation. I think we had 6 different antennae up by noon. Norman KN3D set up a VHF/UHF/HF antenna station for our GOTA station. Dale KC3RKP provided a great burger lunch then a full dinner of barbecue and turkey. Dick AE3DT brought his famous breakfast casserole Sunday morning. So, we ate well and often. Plenty of water and drinks were available. Dave KB3RAN operated from a solar panel and battery all weekend on PSK31 digital mode. We had 191 contacts on 4 bands. 98 CW, 59 Phone and 34 Digital contacts were submitted to ARRL. We had 3 overnighters on site: Norman KN3D in his Winnebago, Dale KC3RKP and Debra in his travel trailer, and Dave KB3RAN in his Roadtrek campervan. We had many stay at the end to help tear down the stations and antennae. Thanks for everyone's help there also. Dick AE3DT made sure the place was swept and the trash was removed. Oh, and the weather was just about perfect for a Field Day weekend.
Our display table set up by Dave W3PQS and designed by former member Monica Noell KC3DAS was well received, and many stopped by to pick up information. We will move some of this material to the Calvert Library in Prince Frederick on August 1st for a month. Do I have any volunteers to help me put it up that afternoon? And do you have any old/historic/interesting ham radio artifacts to share with the public for a month? Nothing too large for a display case, please. I'd like to see CARA members QSL cards on display. I'm also looking for a picture of Chris Kirby KB3CLG SK to share a memorial there. Please contact me at secretary@k3cal.org with items to be picked up.
Maryland QSO Party is coming up on August 13th 10:00 AM to 12:00 midnight EDT. There are no restrictions on power supplies and such for this. Where do you want to operate from?

CARA Secretary
