Hey folks... Hope everyone has recovered from Field Day and staying indoors where it's cool.
With Field Day behind us, the next "event" to think about is National Night Out on Tuesday August 4th. The past couple of years, we've set up at Broome's Island Community Center in an effort to help promote and show appreciation for our public safety folks and we've been given the OK to do it again this year.
I've attached a list of other Nat'l Night Out events in the county with the idea of seeing if we can have a presence at some of the others. Right now, Nigel, G0JKN, will be leading the charge at Broome's Island and Dave, W3PQS, has expressed an interest in setting up at the Chesapeake Beach and could use another set or two of hands to assist. Would be nice to have another location or two. I'm gonna look into the Huntingtown location.
VP Erik, KC3QQD, has run a special Talk-Around-Tuesday from Broome's Island the last couple years on 146.580 simplex using the RACES crossband repeat radio and is up for it again this year. I'm thinking we could also run a club National Night out net of some kind on the repeater system.
We've got just over a month and planning early is key. If you'd be willing to set up at one of these locations, the contact info is on the list or, if you'd like to help out at one of the 3 locations already being planned, let me know. They run from around 5pm-9pm and usually have food trucks and the like(depending on coordination). VHF/UHF is the minimum, HF is optional.
This is another great way for people to see who we are, what we do, and why amateur radio matters!
More at July's meeting on the 9th.
