Subject: [smcares] Connector Workshop, Sunday, 9/13/2026 - Sign up!

Mark your calendars for the 11th Annual Connector Workshop (Red-Righting, Tongue-Upping the World since 2016)!

Where: Workshop to be held at the home of Jeff – KB3SPH and Pam – KB3SWS, 2815 Butterfly Pl, Indian Head, MD, 20640.

Latest workshop information available on the web at: thewebniche.net

When: Sunday, 13 September 2026, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Please plan to arrive between 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.)

Who: Any interested person. This email is being sent to local area amateur radio operators. Please feel free to forward this email to any individual/group that may have an interest.

What: Free Connector Workshop focusing on learning about and constructing power cable assemblies using Anderson PowerPole connectors.

This year’s agenda will include a “Make & Take” project; a wye splitter assembly (10 AWG input with two 12 AWG outputs with PowerPoles on each of the three ends). This splitter assembly is similar to ones with online pricing of $14 each. Online example: https://www.amazon.com/ELFCULB-Anderson-Splitter-Extension-Generator/dp/B0D2HGTYX1/ref=sr_1_8

The Workshop kit cost for one splitter assembly consisting of one pair of 45A PowerPole connectors/housings, two pairs of 30A PowerPole connectors/housings, 10AWG and 12AWG cable, two 8 AWG heat shrink butt connectors, three PowerPole connector pair housing boots, and heat shrink tubing is $12.00.
Why would you want one of these splitters?
*You need to run two pieces of equipment, but only have one power source. Plug the 10 AWG end into the power source and you have two 12AWG power sources at the other ends.
*You could run a piece of equipment using one output end of the splitter and check voltage on the line via the other output end without unplugging the equipment.
For logistics purposes, please let me know via the sign-up information request below if you want to participate in the project and how many splitter kits you want. I will purchase the kit parts in advance, based on the number of responses and collect kit payment at the workshop via cash, check, PayPal (Friends and Family), or Zelle.

Feel free to purchase/bring your own parts for any project you may have and assemble them at the workshop using your own tools or tools available at the workshop. Other items (too many to list) will be available for purchase at the workshop to assist in your project.

New to PowerPoles? Come learn how to use them, incorporate them into your projects, and “try before you buy” the necessary tools.

How (To):

- Briefs on Anderson PowerPole connectors (the ARES/RACES standard) and demonstrations on various configurations to assemble.

- Hands on use of PowerPole crimpers and other tools/materials to construct your accessories.

Why: Get the creative juices flowing!

Notes:

No experience or bringing equipment is necessary, come and learn from others! If you have a situation where you need assistance in getting a connector/advice on equipment, please bring that equipment to the workshop and let the “Brain Trust” have a crack at solving the issue.

You do not have to participate in the “Make and Take” project.

Pam – KB3SWS will have her smörgåsbord available throughout the afternoon. Water, tea and coffee will be available. If you desire other beverages, please bring your own.
