Hi Dwight,
The Yaesu FT991 is All Mode, All Band, offering SSB operation on UHF and VHF. As such it would get my vote for a first time radio for a new ham. What ever you buy it will not be your last rig or your last antenna. I think you live near by, I'm in Chesapeake Beach. You are more than welcome to come over to the house and see first hand several different on the air rigs and antenna set ups. If this is of any interest to you, contact me off list at: kb3wfv at yahoo.com

Hello all, Dwight Gordon (KD3CZT) here. I'm new to the hobby and looking to purchase my first dedicated HF tranceiver. Im currently debating between the Yaesu 991-A and the FT-DX10. What are some options or quality of life features that would make a more seasoned hobbyist lean towards one or another? For the antenna I am looking very seriously at the DX Commander Signature 9. I hope to attend the next club meeting in person. Thanks in Advance
Dwight Gordon
