Subject: ARRL book
For sharing. My reflector address is a redirected one and the resolved address doesn't allow me to post to the members list.
Received the ARRL's book "Salty Walt's Portable Antenna Sketchbook" and presently reviewing the details. The author specializes in shoreline activations. The book is for people interested in building their own antennas.
It's unique in that it covers antenna designs and includes seafood dishes the author recommends. I'll not get to the restaurants he discusses but the antenna designs are good, so far. It discusses mast heights, lines, bands that can be used and recommended ununs or baluns for antenna types.
For instance, the Slinky vertical recommends the giant Slinky, not the generic one sold in a three pack by Amazon (Amazon does have an individual giant slinky), a bit of wire soldered to the bottom, a 7 meter mast and a recommended unun. It is supposed to reach lower bands.
Some antennas have propagation models associated with the antennas. While most are vertical antennas, the book does cover horizontal dipoles that one can make.
