[K3CAL] Hollywood GMRS Repeater

Gene Talley, N3NO, called me this morning. He asked me to let folks know that the MECH675 GMRS repeater in Hollywood is available for folks to use. Has good coverage and shouldn't be a problem for folks to access.

Rx freq.-  462.675
Tx freq.-  467.675(GMRS repeaters are always a +5MHz offset)
Rx tone- 141.3
Tx tone-167.9(141.3 will work but has a habit of keying another nearby repeater when used in certain areas. He recommends 167.9 for us.)

While it is not ham radio, it is an option for those with family that want radio communication available but may not want to be hams. Local voice comms only. No CW, digital, RTTY, etc. and is limited to 50w so it is not intended to take the place of ham. Licensing is $35 and one license is good for an entire family so it has the potential to introduce the younger crowd to the world of radio without the individual fees and initial study commitment.

A few folks are working towards a GMRS repeater in Calvert to help round out our "civilian" radio availability/options. Hopefully more on that soon.
