Good Morning All,
In case you don't already know. The Last Radio Shack store in Maryland is closing April 26th 2025. The store is located in Prince Frederick and is currently selling off it's inventory. Below is some information from Ed King, the son of the store owner.

Hi Brian,
The Radio Shack will close down a week from Saturday. Here's a couple of articles that have come out:

I think Cindy says most things are 40% off right now. Let people know so they can visit the store one last time. : )

Hi Ed!
Thanks. Your too kind. I babbled for three hours, should have listened more. Lisa and I saw the sign yesterday as we passed the store. I can't help to wonder, What would King Properties want for a monthly rent for that space?
Cube Sat? I'm thinking that is the small box satellites that hobbyist build. Launching them by hitching a ride on a space flight to be deployed. If so I wonder if they have anything to do with AMSAT? Check out https://www.amsat.org/ . This group builds and deploys amateur radio satellites With built in radio receivers and transmitters, amateur radio operators can communicate through them as they pass over head. There is an entire aspect of amateur radio dedicated to working satellite. Antennas, radios, software, etc. Boy talk about getting into both STEM and Ham. Well, there it is!
I encourage you to get your amateur radio license. It is a fascinating world of technology that brings a lifetime of friendships all over the world. Check out https://www.hamradiolicenseexam.com/ . It is a online self study program that presents you will the actual FCC test questions and answers. You can choose to memorize, or learn the material. It also keeps track of your progress, repeating the questions marked wrong, minimizing the ones answered correctly.
In the mean time, check out http://websdr.org/ . It is a collection of web based receivers located all over the world, allowing you to listen to amateur radio and more. It's free, and anyone can use them.
Trying to pull off a sale this month would be tough. Besides Cindy doesn't need any more to do than she already has. Another time would be great. I meet with the club board on Thursday and will let them know.
Absolutely. Please stay in touch.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for meeting with me a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoyed talking with you and you had a lot of great ideas. I have decided to close the store, but I'm still contemplating some ideas about how to get more involved in STEM and Ham Radio.
I'm back in Portland now and went to the Rocket Club Meeting at Portland State yesterday. I'm going to try to get involved in their CubeSat project again and also get my Ham Radio License which I studied for before, but never took the exam. I'm excited to learn about both as I consider what direction my career takes next.
If you are interested in having a sale of equipment at the King Building, we can try to arrange something (I'll have to talk with Cindy). The closing date for the store is April 26th. Let me know if you want to try and do something this month and we'll see if we can make it work. Otherwise, we can have an event this spring or summer.
Will be back in Calvert County again soon. Let's stay in touch.
