Subject: [K3CAL] 2024 Simulated Emergency Test
Good afternoon all. Saturday is this year's ARES Simulated Emergency Test.
If you haven't heard, we're doing a joint exercise with the St. Mary's
folks. I've attached a copy of the scenario and some objectives we've come
up with. Also attached is a copy of the ICS-205(Emergency Radio
Communications Plan), an overhead view of where we'd like folks
participating to report at Jefferson-Patterson Park just prior to 9am(you
can use the repeater if you need to be guided in), and a copy of the Auxcomm
member list
Around 9am, Shawn N3AE will simulate a call-up and activate a Resource Net
on the K3CAL repeater system with further information and instructions as
would happen in a similar situation. Dave W3PQS will be at Jeff-Pat to act
as Net Control for folks in the field and will pass on frequencies and any
additional instructions for those participating.
A couple of things to keep in mind... We're not using any type of script.
What we say isn't as important as establishing and maintaining the
communication. Locations, signal reports, and general related info are fine.
Next, please limit your communication to net control or EOC if that's who
you are asked to report to. Folks from Calvert shouldn't have to talk to
folks from St. Mary's unless you're at the EOC. Radio discipline/layered
communication would be stressed in this environment. Downward and upward
communication is one of the goals. Cell phones are not off limits. If you
lose contact with the net, EOC, or whoever you're asked to report to, feel
free to call them. Not looking to lose anyone. We're hoping we can do it all
by radio but... Folks in the field can move about wherever you'd like. You
want to try a different location or a couple of different spots, that's
encouraged. It will help us get a better handle on where HT's are effective
and where they're not. Last and most important, Please remember to end
transmissions with "exercise message" or the like! We don't want to alarm
any listeners.
Please read over the scenario to get the jest of what we're looking to
accomplish and use the ICS-205 to program any frequencies into your radios.
If you don't have an HT, Dave will have a couple with him that can be
borrowed.
Fixed locations will be:
Barstow EOC site KC3WRX
Jefferson-Patterson Park W3PQS
Drum Point Community Center AC3KX(fingers crossed he can get it)
Shawn's QTH N3AE
Hopefully we can practice what we know, learn what we don't and how to
overcome any obstacles, and have some fun doing it.
The plan is lunch at 3 Brothers in Prince Frederick afterward.
I think that's it right now. Shawn? Bill? Dave? Any input?
Any additional info will be passed on and if anyone has a question, reply
all to this that way we'll all see the question and hopefully understand the
answer.
Look forward to seeing folks and thanks for your time.
Andy
